Legislative Hearing Next Friday

Please find the link below for the legislative briefing next Friday, September 19, 2014 at 1 pm in Conference Room 325 at the State Capitol.  The purpose of the informational briefing is to provide an update on the impacts of HECO's interconnection policies and to provide comments on HECO's DGIP and PSIP.  HSEA will be one of four presenters; no public testimony is allowed.  If you are able, please try and find time to attend to show your support and concern for the ongoing difficulties that the solar industry is facing.

Brief summary of HECO proposals to the PUC

On August 26th, the utility released two key documents:  the Power Supply Improvement Plan (PSIP—one each for HECO, HELCO, and MECO), and the Distributed Generation Interconnection Plan (DGIP).  Although the utility states that these new plans will nearly triple distributed generation by 2030, they contain several new proposals which have the potential to further limit distributed generation (DG) installations, including rooftop solar.

Storm Tips for PV Owners

Unless you have an off-grid system running independently of the grid, it is advisable to shut off your PV system until after the high winds and rains pass.  Doing so is as easy as switching the large disconnect switch (usually installed outside, near your electricity meter) to the OFF position.
