Please be advised that customers who wish to install a photovoltaic system in any of the HECO Companies’ territories must first receive written approval from the utility before the customer may install and energize the system.  Specifically, the NEM application has the following language:  “Under no circumstances shall a Customer-Generator interconnect and operate a generating facility in parallel with the Company’s electric system without prior written approval by the Company in the form of a fully executed Net Energy Metering Agreement.”  Please be aware that no traditional PV systems that are designed to connect in parallel with the electrical system are “pre-approved” or “exempt” from the interconnection rules.  If in doubt, check with the NEM department at your local utility.
