Upcoming Public Hearings on HECO Merger

Posted on Thursday, August 20, 2015

Aloha all,

As you all know, we're in the midst of the merger docket that will determine whether or not NextEra will take charge of our local utility.  As part of the process, the applicants must hold a series of meetings to give the public an opportunity to voice their concerns or support in a public forum.  I think it's safe to say that the process hasn't gone smoothly for NextEra so far.  All 28 intervening parties and the Consumer Advocate have come out in opposition to the Merger in Direct Testimony, in addition to the Governor.  Even if the PUC decides to give the merger a green light, they have the power to impose specific and binding conditions as a condition of the sale.

So, if you feel strongly about what's happening with the merger, please make a note on your calendar for the upcoming meetings.  The first is on Maui and is scheduled for September 4, 2015.

Here are the details for all of the scheduled meetings:

Maui - September 4th, 6:00 p.m., Lihikai Elementary School’s cafeteria
Lanai - Sept. 5, 11 a.m. at its high school and elementary school cafeteria.
